Additional Mindscapes Programming
Working with the Center for Urban Pedagogy (CUP), I connected high schoolers to public health city leadership to support CUP’s Bronx Be Well urban investigation of mental health. CUP collaborated with Teaching Artist Hugo Rojas and students from the Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom High School to explore how poverty impacts mental health in the Bronx.
As part of Mindscapes programming, I brainstormed with social practice artist Christine Wong Yap and New York Public Library (NYPL) staff on how to support NYPL’s teen programs connected to Anti-Prom, an alternative to prom for LGBTQ+ youth. NYPL has developed programs and workshops related to mental health and well-being, including TeenLive programs that feature authors for a young adult audience.
The Laundromat Project (The LP), focusing on “Collective Recovery,” is developing Mindscapes programming including a series of intergenerational story circles, a window commission, involvement with a block party, and video documentation that will engage neighbors and community groups in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.
High school students collaborated with CUP and teaching artist Hugo Rojas to investigate the intersection of poverty and mental health in 2021.
